This blog, written for Ukrainian Product Design, explores a collection of wallpapers designed in conjunction with Elle Decor Ukraine, based on the famous architectural landmarks of Kyiv, with their deeply symbolic and profound significance, which is particularly poignant during turbulent times. It explores contemporary features such as augmented reality and the influence of the Bauhaus style and modern constructivism through abstract geometrical design.
I enjoyed researching the historic landmarks in Ukraine’s capital and their diverse and fascinating history. There were so many designs to choose from, each with unique significance, but I opted for the following:
The Kyiv-Pechersk Lava - Monastery of Caves
The House of Actors
The Mosaic of Pecherskaya Metro Station
Here’s what my client said about the blog
‘‘…it beautifully encapsulates Ukrainian culture, history, and the talent of Evgen (designer) in reinventing the old into something new’’.
Iwent on to write a total of twenty blogs from nine artisanal companies, falling under UPD’s umbrella. In addition to the above, its diverse range of products and services include:
interior design services
bespoke wood panelling and furniture
stone cladding
high-end marble furniture
a range of award-winning sofas and chairs
cellulose lighting
high-end eclectic design products
a collection of wallpapers, designed in collaboration with Elle Decor, Ukraine
The goal was to showcase high-end design products, quality craftsmanship and customisable options with an emphasis on sustainable philosophy, and a desire to promote national solidarity and preserve Ukrainian heritage. I was tasked to delve deeper into each designer’s backstory and my client’s inspirational journey in the face of adversity, in her quest to form UPD.
Having seen the quality of the products on offer at the Decorex design stand in October 2023, it was a pleasure to showcase its range.
